Niederleis
The municipality of Niederleis, consisting of the villages of Niederleis, Nodendorf, Helfens and Kleinsitzendorf, is located on the south side of the Leiser Berge, in the heart of the Weinviertel. A fortress in Niederleis is mentioned as early as 1309, as is a family called "de Leizze". The Niederleis moated castle still bears witness to many eventful eras.
Far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, it is an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding Excursion destinations. For this purpose, the "Niederleis hiking arena" has an extensive network of hiking trails, which are also connected to the nature park trails.
If you would like to follow in the footsteps of the country and its people, the Niederleis local history museum is the right place for you and can be visited by appointment. The history of the community, as well as everyday life in earlier times, is given ample space in the exhibition. Niederleis has two small but fine art havens in the form of the Kunsthaus by Harry Raab and Margit StuckART and the Keramikhof by Georg Olbrich. The artists are happy to give visitors an insight into their studios by appointment. A visit to the Gasthaus Haselbauer is the perfect culinary end to a day in the Leiser mountains. So there are many reasons to choose Niederleis as your excursion destination.
