The Leiser Mountains form a vibrant mosaic of dry grasslands, ancient forests and open hilly landscapes. Over generations, a cultural landscape of exceptional diversity has developed here.
Amidst limestone cliffs and feather grass, pasque flowers bloom in spring, and with a bit of luck you can hear the characteristic call of the hoopoe across the open spaces. In summer, you’ll encounter heat-loving insects. The praying mantis lies in wait in the tall grass, and the red-backed shrike keeps watch for prey from the old hawthorn.
